A Rough Idea of the Make up of the Building
When this idea was originally planned out on sticky notes it was written by floor. So what follows is what was written originally on those sticky notes by floor. Upon further examination of the plan it is apparent that all these ideas may not require there own floors, but use this as a good list of what is to be included in the building. And don't forget to add your own ideas. Here is a wonderful site to look at architecture that will be sustainable and beautiful. Also anyone intrested in the fabrication aspect of the building should check out this video about building green.
+If you want an idea for what I'm going for as far as arcitecture and function. Try this link.
Check out the original sticky note that gave birth to this project.

1st Floor
- A Langston Room type place, for plays, live music, poetry slams, improv, speeches, manifestos, loud stuff. Black Box theater type of vibe. So there can either be chairs or not, depending on the kind of event. We're looking to do a Black Cat type thing here, new bands becoming exposed to new audiences. We'll need someone who's really good at seeking out the latest and most under rated. This part will be a big factor as far as revenue goes.
- Thinking of building a gigantic reactable here to attract musicans and people like the tank does in NYC for the bent festival and the blip festival. Very much into DIY projects and foresee this building being used as a playground of artists and gadget makers alike. So having a reactable and a couple of monomes on hand would facilitate some good fun.
-
2nd Floor
- Cafe, The Chalk Board: a large chalk board surrounding the walls that can be written on by anyone, artists and such, with the chalk that lies in buckets around the walls. Acoustic guitar sets, poetry readings, maybe single act plays, or improv. This one will have permanent chairs and tables to facilitate the cafe vibe. Less volume with the acts here then the 1st floor.
-
3rd Floor
-
- The Kitchen for the cafe, administrative offices, membership offices, equipment rental offices, storage, utility, security, marketing department, ect.
-
- This will also be the site of the massive storage required to archive digitally all that is created at DC Project One. All events will be filmed and posted on the website as well as be available to the artist for them to sale. All chalkboard art and class projects. even the classes themselves will be archived. Archiving will be a mantra at the Center. The idea is to create a space where everything can be searched for in the library to create the best resource possible on DC Arts.
4th Floor
-
- HD Studio, music labs, recording studios, editing suites, computer labs, This floor may need to take up two floors architecturally speaking to accommodate the high ceilings for the studio lights. (Originally on the sticky notes this floor would also contain the class rooms and library but they should receive their own floor.)
-
5th Floor
-
- The Creative Library which will include the archive of DC created works and other treasures. Should prove to be a center for documentarians to research, and others to learn. And this floors will hold the class rooms taught by DC area creative professionals. This is perhaps the most important part. The 1st and 2nd floor mainly work to interact with the public by creating a space for others to perform. While this floor is for those who wish to learn and create.
-
The Shops
Other Ideas
+Originally this building had more of a commercial slant so here are some of the ideas that were in the original plan but maybe inappropriate for the current plan.
- 4 Floors of Parking Below the building for easy access
-
- Trendy Co-Op owned stores that surround the base of the building
-
- Levels above DC Project One are rental spaces for businesses, or creative professionals wishing to live at the Project.

I hate the way this page keeps reformatting it's self. But I'm much to tired to try and fix it right now.

Fixed some of the formatting. Also added information about the music venue that's going to be inside DCP, also information about the record store.
