Keep Track of Our Progress
This page shows the latest news on our progress towards the project becoming a reality.
Here's What Were Up Too:
- July 10, 2009 - The wiki now has it's own better looking website for presenting the idea to people in a none fluid environment. It's not dynamic as the wiki is but it's suppose to be a tool for showing up what we have so far. www.welovejeff.com/projectone
- August 27, 2008 - I've added some cool stuff about music on the The Building page under the 1st floor section. It talks about some cools ideas about electronic musical intruments that would be able to set us apart from the crowd. I also found out about this cool documentary that talks about The Tank (see Our Inspirations) called Reformat The Planet. All really awesome ideas in there that kept me focus on the project this week. I messed around with different enterprise tools today as well. First I tried creating a project one page with BaseCamp, but I didn't really like it very much. Then I tried Google Apps, it's my favorite so far, I like the intergration with Docs, Calender, and Gmail. It's also the most familar for most to learn. I'll keep playing around with it.
- July 31, 2008 - Demo2.0 got it's own page, and a bunch of stuff in different areas. Don't worry I haven't forgot about you, just busy. But I always have this project in the back of my head. I've been working really hard at my new job and having a great summer. I'm so excited to start the second half of my college career.
- April 5, 2008 - Sorry I've been gone for so long, haven't really been keeping up with the project, but it's always in my thoughts. This is my big goal in life, so don't worry I'm not every going to give up on it. I haven't worked on the citizen civic engagment tool at all. I need something to remind me about it all time, otherwise I will forget about it. I've added a whole bunch of stuff to the inspirations page since winter so check it out.
- December 18, 2007 - I added the think to the retail rental box idea from Springwise, also I added a link to a store that is already using the idea. Thats all. Sorry for not updating as much, I just don't have much to add right now. Again check my blog, links are through out the wiki.
- November 7, 2007 - Added a scan of the back and front of the sticky notes that carried the inception of this idea. Created in Spring '06, it was the muse of this project and used as the templete for the wiki. Posted to the wiki for full disclosure and archiving purposes. Check The Building page for the photos.
- October 4, 2007 - Finally we have our first spin-off project of DC Project One. And what's more fitting then a civic engagment tool. That's right I'm entering into the Knight News Challenge. So check out my idea on my blog, and give me feedback. With any luck we might win, and any money we win will goto the implementation of this new project as well as the DC Project One start-up fund. Hopefully will have better luck then we did with the e-projects competition. Soon this project will be getting a name and it's own tab on this wiki, so stay subscribed. And be sure to edit in your ideas once I put it up.
- September 26, 2007 - I've added this picture of what I thought would be cool for the storage of all of this online content that were going to be creating. Wether it be digital art or cool videos, the project needs a way to quickly move all of this content all at once. And to share it across the network. So I created this mockup on how members will be able to access the large archives of data that we will have onsite. Also It outlines how they will be able to save their projects on our location, and use our awesome render farm to help lower their render times. Which brings me to a very important issue .
Video: I really want Project One to be a space were content deveopers can meet, develope, and distribute. Think of it as an open source channel online. It's the East Coast Revision3,

but more open. The Idea being that people will be able to come in, use our resources, and release their content on our site. Project
One will become a kind of aggregation channel for content created onsite. I think that this goal should be secondary to all the community and education stuff. But followed closely in priorities. I just think it would be so cool if we could give local content developers a soapbox to stand on that already had an awesome audience. So give it some thought. Keep it in the back of your mind.
- September 24, 2007- I've been really busy at college again. I apologize. But don't think that I've not been working on this project. I'm learning about urban planning and studying how Richmond is changing and evolving. Richmond is such an awesome case study because it's such a dynamic community with all the students and artists. There are so many examples here of people graduating from VCU and then starting up a store/gallery here and being successful. It seems that there's a much bigger market for these kind of projects here in Richmond. Neigborhoods like Organ Hill and the art galleries around W. Broad are just some of the areas that seem to be ripe for a Project One space. So I'm learnig about how spaces like Gallery 5 in Richmond transition from art galleries to community spaces. This is such an exciting time for me, and every step in learning is a step in the right direction. It's only becoming more real to me. I hope that everyone that reads this catches my enthusiasm about the project and starts to help out too. It's not too much work that everyone has to put in. Just when your living out your everyday life look out for things that could be Project One related, and when you see it, add it to the wiki. It keeps the conversation open. Good luck.
- July 30, 2007- So I said that this would become a full time project during the Summer, but one thing got in the way, I actually found a full time job, so I haven't been able to update as much as I'd like too. Oh well. I've added some more to the inspirations page, including a really cool article from WTOP with audio on d.c. space. So check that out, and know that as soon as school starts I'll try to work more on the project and get a domain for us. Have a good day.
- May 2, 2007- It's becoming very aparent that the easiest page for me to update is the Inspirations page, so if you haven't checked it out recently I've added a whole bunch of links to different sites, places, and spaces that are in the spirit of this project. Check it out so you can learn more about what were trying to do. And if you live in New York City, you pretty much have most of the components for this project already in your area. School ends May 10th, after that the Wiki will become a full time project for the Summer. Keep updating with your thoughts.
- April 10, 2007- After a much needed break Jeff is back in the editing mood and has added new link to the inspirations page. He promises to keep up with the project over the Summer as he moves back to DC for school break. Look forward to some great additions to the wiki soon.
- March 13, 2007- Well we heard back from the e-projects competition and unfortunately we didn't make the cut. They had 70 submissions and I guess a lot of great ideas. We'll get next time. So keep on editing and making this project even better.
- February 27, 2007- Jeff submitted an application to the e-projects competition at VCU, in the hope of winning one of the five honorarium awards of $500 and the chance to present his idea infront of others. The money will be placed in a account to gather interest and become the seed money for the project, and a site for donations to be placed. Here's how Jeff described the project to the judges with help from Cory Bowles. Feel free to edit it for future submissions to competitions.
- DC Project One is an online Wiki that will one day with the support and interaction of the community, blossom into a living-breathing environment, that every person will be able to utilize. With the addition of this project being a community-planned organization, this Wiki will also help the community to share their ideas and thoughts more freely, which is what this project is truly about. This project isn’t so much about making money as it is about creating something that the general public will be able to appreciate and feel free utilize whenever it is needed. This center will help serve as an educational environment, a place where artist can share their voices, and overall just a territory where people can feel free to be themselves. The true meaning of this project is to make sure that everybody has a voice and that those voices will actually be heard.
